Channels of Business Communication

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

There are many different channels of business communication that you can use to conduct business through with clients, potential customers, and vendors. These different channels include the Internet, print, radio, television, and through word of mouth.

Marketing must be communicated and delivered to customers in order to brand a business. The channel of communication that you use can make all of the difference in the world with how successful you are with the endeavors.

The Internet is the most popular channel today to communicate marketing efforts to potential customers and more. Many companies use the Internet to expand their customer base. However, they also use the web to communicate with current customers also. This might include giving the client a username and password so they can log into the company website and view their account, messages you might send to them, and status of orders they have placed. The web is a preferred medium today for most people and a great place to start if you have a product that will allow you to target the world.

Print publication is another channel that companies use to market their business. A company that sells artificial Christmas trees usually wants to target the local community in newspaper ads. A local newspaper is the best place to advertise sales and weekend specials you might be holding on prelit artificial Christmas trees and possibly holiday events you might be holding too. You also might consider using holiday magazines as a form of print media to advertise the sales of your artificial trees.

The radio is a good place to go and common for some businesses to deliver a message to a local community. Radio stations often limit the message being delivered to a specific crowd. For example, not everyone listens to classical music so if you advertise on a station like this then the targeted audience would be to possibly an older and calmer crowd. If you are targeting a younger crowd then you may consider communicating your message on a hip hop station.

Word of mouth is not a very successful method for communicating to potential customers and clients that your business exists. This is actually a common reason businesses fail. You cannot rely on friends and family to get the word out and they will not work as hard as a professional marketing campaign to get the word out that you exist. You must use the proper methods of communication to target the proper audience and this is actually a very strategic effort.

Communication is one of the most important things that a company can do to get the word out about their existence to local communities and around the world. There are many different types of channels of communication that you can use in order to be successful. The different types of channels include the web, print, radio, television, word of mouth, and more. When you use these different channels of communication you need to be sure that the method you choose is appropriate for the targeted audience. You don’t want to choose a budget method that targets an older crowd if your goal is to reach out to teenagers. This would defeat the entire purpose and project.
